My first post is up! I'm officially a David Tutera blogging bride! From here on out, I'll have blogs going up about every two days. I've had several girls tell me they've told other brides about the site and they love it! It's a great site for ideas and details you have never thought of. Some posts even help you figure out how to handle some sticky wedding situations! Here's my first post: http://itsabrideslife.com/author/suzanne/ Yes, The Kite Runner is a movie but you must read or listen to the book first. I read the book several years ago and loved it. I needed an audio book for all of my traveling so I grabbed it from the library and listened to it again. (P.S. The library is a great place to rent audio books!!!) I just finished listening to it and it's still just as good. The author takes you through the life of an Afghani from the 1960s- present. There has been turmoil, war, and devastation in Afghanistan ever since then. The author is such a vivid writer that you can see what he is saying. One of my favorite, most picturesque lines went something like, "the sky curdled with clouds." The entire book is like that! It's a must read. You learn a lot about the culture and that is so interesting to me. Please-- read the book THEN watch the movie! Before I give any song or album a critique, I listen to it at least three times. The first time is to just listen. The second to absorb it. The third to make my opinion. This past week when I was traveling home, I listened to Keith Urban's latest album, Fuse, about ten times. If you read the "About Suzanne" section, you would know that I love Keith Urban. I will pay a ton of money to go see him in concert. I know almost every song and I paid $14 for the album. That's a big deal for me. In my opinion, I think Keith when back to high school and wrote half of his songs. They are about young love, remembering lost loves, those first moment and memories with your first love, etc. One thing Eric probably both loves and hates about me is that I lovvvvveeeee a good, sappy love song. If it tells a sweet story, even better. Eric wants his music to be indirect, a bit of a puzzle, and not allll about love... only a little bit! That's A-OK. I like most every type of music and he has learned to like country! So, with that, Eric will probably not like Keith Urban's latest album because it's all story telling and sappy. Just like all of his other albums... which is what I want! My favorite songs are: Somewhere in My Car, Cop Car, Even The Stars Fall 4 U, Black Leather Jacket... I could probably list most of the songs but these are my favorites, right now! Take a listen on Spotify (for free) and let me know what you think! Today marks one month since Eric and I got engaged (!!!!!=)=)=)=)!!!!). Ever since, my life has been turned upside down and I haven't stopped moving/traveling/thinking. This whole "being engaged" stuff is exhausting.. BUT so much fun!!
With the non-stop life I've been living, I have stopped doing a few things. Most importantly, working out has been put in the back seat and so has my 100-day burpee challenge. It ended up being a ~70-day burpee challenge. And, that's not OK. I set out to reach a goal and I failed, but I'm not giving up. Starting today, my burpee challenge has resumed by completing 70 burpees. I have 40-days of burpees ahead to finish it out and I have to keep it up! I have fallen behind too many times. It will be easier since I won't be traveling nearly as much and (hopefully) I won't get sick again! Also, starting today, I am going to be better about blogging. I set out to do this challenge and I haven't kept it up either! Keep your eye out because the blog posts will be coming. I also have my David Tutera "It's a Bride's Life" blog to keep me writing as well! Happy one month of being engaged, Eric! Here's to spending the next year getting my wedding body! If you've seen these Chicken & Waffle Lays chips in the grocery store, you've probably been curious about what they taste like. I have been tempted to buy them 4-5 times in the last couple of months. I finally caved and bought the chips! My Review: They're kind of gross, kind of addicting, and they satisfy a chip craving. The maple syrup taste you get from the first bite is nice. It's once you get into the chicken aftertaste that things get a little gross. For some people, it might be the perfect chip flavor but for me. I'm OK. My curiosity has been fed and I don't think I will be buying Chicken and Waffle flavored chips again! Let me know what you think if you decide to test them out! I've been quiet the past couple of weeks because I haven't stopped moving, thinking, and driving. Seriously. I've probably driven 50+ hours between VA and SC in the past three weeks. I will slowly catch up on writing about the new things I've done the past three weeks.
I FIRST wanted to share some very exciting news!! The title pretty much explains it all. Through an application process, I was chosen to be one of David Tutera's blogging brides! Some people may not know who he is so here is are a few links so you can get caught up. To say the least, he is a wedding genius. In every.. single.. area! David on WE tv About David David's Bridal Blog I'll be blogging on this site! David Tutera for Mon Cheri dress designs (Eric's not allowed to click this one....) I will be blogging about 2 times a week for "It's a Bride's Life" until a few weeks after our wedding day, which is, September 27, 2014! It's a great opportunity for me to talk all things bridal, get some great blogging experience, not bore you with ALL of my wedding planning, and overall, it's going to be a lot of fun! My first post is set to go live on September 28th. I'll give you a hint what it's about... I found THE dress!!!! When it goes live, I'll post the link but for now go check out my blog homepage. My blogging bride name is "Miss Southern Glitz Bride". I will get a customized "Suzanne" cartoon in a couple of weeks! I can't get too much into the details right now. I will just say that my blogging is about to go national! I have a great opportunity ahead and it's going to be the ultimate blogging challenge filled with a bunch of firsts! All of the logistics and details are now being figured out but once I know more and I'm able to explain, I will! Sorry for the tease! It's going to be an exciting year!!
I am joining up with my friend, Chris and whoever else joins us, to run, walk, or run-walk for childhood cancer. One of the first times I ever hung out with Chris, we were standing in a group talking and to just fill me in on a little bit of his life he blurts out, "I had cancer once", or something to that extent! I was so shocked and didn't know what to say. Since then, I learned that at age 16 (may have been 15...), Chris was diagnosed with lymphoma. He went through chemo during high school, lost him hair, fought the fight and today, is as healthy as can be. He is a huge advocate for fighting childhood cancer and uses his experience to share that with everyone around him. That's how I learned about Alex's Lemonade Stand. It's an organization started by a little girl who was fighting cancer by selling lemonade while having cancer. She later lost her fight but her organization continues to raise money in her name.
For the month of September (Childhood Cancer Awareness Month), Alex's Lemonade Stand Organization is having a Million Mile Run. Chris started a team to help reach the organizations goal of running/walking one million miles to fight cancer. Right now, we have a team of three and our goal is $100 dollars for 100 miles. I hope we can surpass those two markers by a lot! Personally, I have a goal of logging at least 10 miles a week. In the end, I will donate a dollar per mile I walk. If you want to join in giving per mile we run/walk, go here! I encourage you to read about Alex's Lemonade Stand and join our team if you feel like it's a challenge you're willing to take! First, and foremost, today is my mom's birthday! She is a woman deserving of nothing but the best and I wouldn't be here today without her! I love you mom and I can't wait to celebrate this weekend! Happy Birthday! I'm currently in my way to Clemson,SC for my first Clemson football game. Yes, I am blogging while on the road. No, I am not driving. I have been sitting in traffic for over 2 hours now and I'm still 2 miles from the detour. I have a feeling I'm never going to get to Eric!! While I'm sitting on I-81, I have painted all 20 nails, sewn the straps on my dress (the were too long), and listened to a lot of an audio book. I thought, what better time than now to update my blog! I haven't written at all since the engagement but that doesn't mean I haven't tried new things. This week has been one of the happiest and most exciting weeks of my life but it's also been non-stop! Starting on Saturday, I began losing my voice from taking so much! The raspiness is still around. That's a first for me! I've been telling all of my family and friends about Eric's awesome proposal and showing off this ring! I said it in the laat blog, but it's all beyond perfect and he blew me away!! This I'd exhausting ;) We also finalized our venue and picked a date. This wedding I have been dreaming about since a little girl is finally going to happen with a wonderful, wonderful man by my side on September 27, 2014! We can't wait! It's an outdoor venue so we wanted to wait until the weather would be cooler! I never thought of myself as an outdoor venue kind of girl but this historical home is gorgeous and comfortable and it's really going to be a lot of fun! Mixed in with all of the details, there are plenty of firsts that I'm not going to bore you with but this will be my first and last wedding to plan- that's the biggie! This week, I also entered to be one of David Tutera's bride bloggers. The response I got back was very positive!! Tuesday night and Wednesday I spent finalizing my application. Fingers are crossed but I think it would be an exciting opportunity, as well as a great challenge! I keep checking my email every hour looking for a response! If I get it, I won't have to bore you with all of my wedding planning! In preparation for this weekend, the homemaker in me had to make cookies for the game! I worked in the kitchen for about 2 hours making 3 recipes of cookies. I use the Nestlé Toll House chocolate chip cookie recipe on the back of the bag for both my sugar cookies and chocolate chip. I also made a batch of Eric's favorites, the Pillsbury Rolo Cookie recipe. The trick to making any cookie perfect, is to cook them for 7 minutes. They won't look done. But, leave them on the pan for a couple of minutes and they will be perfect! I've had to break into the dozens on cookies a couple of times to get me through this traffic debacle. They're perfect! I'm really looking forward to this weekend! I get to (re)meet Eric's Clemson friends and see Adam (Eric's brother) perform in the matching band. Just being able to go to a football game this season is really exciting! This is also my first full weekend off this year. If I liked hash tags I would say ...weekendweathergirlproblems... But I'm completely against them and find them more annoying than useful! Anyways, ill be able to see my family for one last lake hoorah on Sunday and Monday! So, if you've gotten this far in this blog post, thank you for reading! It's probably just a jumbled mess of words rather than one thought like a post should be. Ill resume as normal next week! |
